Segovia - a daytrip from Madrid

Segovia is worth visiting for it's Aquaduct which is thought to have been build around 98 AD and once transported water from the Rio Frio river, situated in mountains 17 km from the city. At it's highest the Aquaduct is 28.5 metres tall and it was built without any mortar. If that is not enough there is also a real fairytale like castle - Alcazar, and a beautiful gothic Roman Catholic Church.

Where:

Segovia is approx 80 kms North-West of Madrid, Spain

Getting there:

Train + Bus is the fastest and most convenient option

TRAIN:

  • The train trip only takes 27 minutes by Avant, which is a short distance high speed train

  • Trains depart from Madrid-Chamartin station, which is on the northern side of Madrid, approx 10mins by metro from the apartment

  • Times -

  • departs from Madrid at 9.30am or 10.15am and arrives in Segovia at 9.57 or 10.42am

  • departs from Segovia at 12.37 or 2.24pm and arrives in Madrid at 1.06 or 2.51pm

  • Return tickets cost €20.60 per person, and can be booked up to 90 days in advance

BUS:

  • The train goes to to the new Segovia-Guiomar Station (also called Segovia AVE station), which is approx 6 km from the city centre.

  • There will be a bus waiting at the station to take passengers to the Aquaduct

  • Bus number 11 - costs €2 each way

  • The bus is coordinated with the arrival of the train

  • It takes about 20 minutes to reach the aqueduct.

Getting around:

Segovia used to have a hop on/hop off bus, but it seems to have ceased operations last June.

Therefor the options for getting around are either public bus or taking a city tour run by the tourist information office.

  • Public bus could be hit and miss and will require some effort

  • Below is an email that I've received about the walking tour:

We are glad to inform you, that the guided tour in english is on foot.

It starts at 11h everyday, from the Tourist Office Information Center, next to the Roman Aqueduct.

The price is 12 € per person or 10 € (for retired people or students under 25 years old).

You can book it directly at the tourist Office Information the same day, under the Roman Aqueduct, we open at 10:00h. Minimun required: 4 people.

Other Costs:
